Choose from several options to create a holiday that includes 3-days Traditional / Ecological skill + 1-day Free (or Guided Walk) + 2-days learning a second Traditional / Ecological skill. Apart from the suggested options, we can also provide tailored packages for groups throughout the year, which may include 3 or 4 days skills training plus 2 or 3 days guided walking along part of the East Clare Way walking route.

Possible skills include Basket Weaving, Coppersmithing, Wood Carving, Eco-building skills (Dry-stone Walling / Uses of lime / Cob and Cordwood), Stone Carving and Clay Sculpture, Silversmithing, Herb-lore, Spinning and Weaving, Blacksmithing, Sugan Chair making with an option of Woodcrafts (8 - 14 yrs) for the August week.

In your free time, you could take a trip to The Burren, Connemara or Kerry - all within easy reach. East Clare itself has much to see and do - visit the 6th century monastic site of Inis Cealtra (Holy Island) in Lough Derg, or beautiful Lough Graney where 18th century poet Brian Merriman ran his "hedge school" and was inspired to write his epic poem "The Midnight Court", or the ancient lake settlement of Craggaunowen with its reconstructed round-houses......

East Clare is renowned for its traditional music and we can reccommend sessions in local pubs for your entertainment. There are also festivals of arts, music, drama in different towns and villages around the region throughout the summer.

Guided Walks - 1-day - Opportunity to sample a section of the excellent East Clare Way walking route and to visit examples of Ireland's living natural heritage. Learn about the history of Ireland's temperate rain-forest with Andrew St Ledger (Heritage Specialist - Native Woodlands):

Raheen Oak Wood - a rare pocket of ancient native woodland with mighty, gnarled oaks including the famous 'Brian Boru Oak' said to be 1000 years old.

Cahermurphy Nature Reserve - a beautiful native woodland dominated by oaks with rare and unusual ferns, mosses and lichens and frequented by deer, badger, fox, pine marten, red squirrel .....

Bealkelly Wood - an example of sustainably managed mixed woodland with many coppiced oaks (new growth from stumps of trees cut 100 years ago). An ancient site with a holy well (certified the cleanest water in Clare !) adjacent to the old road connecting two 11th century tower houses.
